Young Reuben Hutton caught this fine brown trout recently on the Bridge Pool on the Mid-Nithsdale AA water at Thornhill.

It weighed in at 1lb 7oz. I caught it on a Red Quill (normally a dry fly pattern) fly which he tied myself.

He tells us that this fly is an absolute killer at most lochs, but he has only had success with it being fished wet on a semi-fast retrieve.

He also apologises for not giving a photo of him holding it - but other anglers were not sporting enough to do the honours!)

PS- It was very nice to eat!
