Recent Catches

I have had no reports of fish this week.

Alan Blyth reported catching ( and returning ) a very fresh 7lb fish from the DGAA water on Friday 25th April. He saw a run of salmon and sea trout moving through.

Lee Simpson, fishing at Dalscone, hooked and landed a sea -liced fish of about 20lbs.on a stoats tail. The fish was released immediately, a little tired but otherwise unharmed.

Two other smaller salmon have been caught from Cowhill and Blackwood 2 weeks ago along with Fred Marshall's 2lb sea trout.

Comments

We haven't had any high waters to flush the river out, so there are probably still some 'well mended' kelts about. Anglers are advised to be very wary about confusing these for fresh fish. Kelts are generally thinner with the head 'out of proportion' to the body.  Better to look inside the gills - where a kelt will almost certainly be hosting "gill maggots".

The best advice of all is to follow the recommendation from the District Salmon Board and "return all fish caught before 1st June".
